William Clark grave (1770-1838) - Bellefontaine Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. After the expedition ended, Clark ensured the publication of the expedition's journals. In 1809 he married and settled in St. Louis. In 1813, he was appointed Superintendent of Indian Affairs west of the Mississippi, a position he held until his death. Lewis had promised Clark the rank of Captain, but the promotion didn't actually come through for nearly 200 years!
